Character Information
Name: Georgette Meissonier
Nickname/aliases: Buffy
Canon: Feed/Newsflesh Trilogy
Canon Type?: Book
Character's LJ: [livejournal.com profile] blondeandperky
Brief history of your character:
In 2014, the cure for cancer and the cure for the common cold combined to create Kellis-Amberlee, a virus that literally raised people from the dead. Unfortunately, the raising from the dead wasn't intended, and resulted in the dead people (and deer, and elephants, and giraffe, and anything that weighed more than 40 pounds and could thus amplify) trying to eat those still alive.

Georgette Meissonier was born in 2017 in Alaska, the only child of a French-Catholic family. She was named for George Romero, whose zombie movies armed humanity against the concept of the dead being able to rise and was widely regarded as a hero.

When Georgette was twelve, the US government decided Alaska could no longer be held against the zombies. All civilians were required to evacuate. The Meissoniers moved to California, leaving the home they were attached to behind.

Georgette grew up after that and while in Alaska, in a secure neighborhood, which required regular bloodtests (the best way to tell whether or not someone was in the process of turning into a zombie before they started to gnaw on people) to enter or leave and minimized risks by minimizing mobility to some extent.

She decided she didn't want to just be another George, and applied her love of old television shows when she picked out the new name of Buffy as something more suited to her personality. She moved out of her parents' house and into another secure neighborhood in Berkeley. She lived there with a couple of roommates.

Buffy started work as a Fictional, a blogger whose focus was primarily on creative endeavors such as her poetry and stories. She entered essay contests and worked alone solely on the writing aspect of blogging until she was recruited to join Shaun and George Mason's team. At that point, she trained for a field licence. She only enters the field for equipment maintenance purposes, content to only deal with fictional zombies whenever possible.

When Senator Ryman announced his candidacy for president and that he would be selecting a team of bloggers to follow him, George and Shaun helped Buffy through the training to go from a B-20 license to an A-15 one, which would allow her into the field and was required to apply to follow Ryman's campaign. Buffy was rushed through the tests, got her license, and the three of them applied.

When their application was the one chosen, Buffy, Shaun and George started planning and split off to form their own website. Buffy was in charge of the Fictionals section, which consisted in large part of social occasions to get creative juices flowing. In addition, she was responsible for the technical responsibilities of the website and recording equipment.

Prior to leaving on the campaign, Buffy was contacted by some people who told her they were concerned about the religious direction of the country and that they would need her to help with some things to keep Senator Ryman from winning. Buffy agreed, and passed on to this third party information about Ryman's schedule and precise location data. The information she gave was partially responsible for the zombie attack at Eakly, although she does not know this.

Brief synopsis of your character's personality:
Buffy is quick to smile and generally a very bubbly individual. She writes depressing poetry and stories and thinks Edgar Allen Poe is socially relevant, but in reality she feels distanced from the actual horrors of zombies. She's a fan of romance in the face of epic tragedy, but only as a story.

Buffy's an only child, and it has informed her habits. She likes having her own space and when she has a dilemma her first instinct is to find a way through it by herself. She's more comfortable being physically close to people than most people of her generation, due in part to her personality and in part to early socialization, but that doesn't extend to emotional closeness. She's not in the habit of baring her soul to anyone -- except God.

Part of this is Buffy's paranoia, which also manifests in her tendency to plant microphones and cameras everywhere. She goes to an intense amount of effort to insure that she finds out what she needs to know and that her private relationships stay private.

Buffy's Catholicism is also an important part of her world view. She grew up going to a physical church every Sunday, which she still does. She prays before she sleeps and before she eats. She can brush off the idea that other people don't believe, but extended contact with other people's atheism bothers her. She doesn't comprehend how people can see the same world she does and not think that putting their faith in God is the only way to go.

She's cute, photogenic, and friendly. She's very outwardly flaky and more than a little naive, but she's also very good with technology. She gives people a way to escape when the news become too much to handle, with a really depressing poem or short story.

Intro Post:
Buffy chewed on her bottom lip as she placed the call. She had to get the information that the screamer had been deliberately sabotaged to George, because George would know what to do. Except it wasn't that simple, because Chuck thought everyone should know, and it was more important that the information get out than that it go particularly to George, so Buffy was taking a breath and asking George to put her on speakerphone. She closed her eyes to blink, and then the world shifted.

Buffy woke with a subtle understanding that something was not at all right. She was used to being surrounded with the subtle hum of machinery pretty much anywhere she set up, but it was silent here. Her eyes snapped open.

She stood and looked around herself, the fact that this wasn't anything remotely resembling the van sinking in. Even worse was the fact that none of her equipment was here. "Chuck?" she called out. "George? Shaun? Steve?"

She spotted the envelope with her name on it, and slid her finger along the inside to open it. This whole scene had a melodramatic feel that would be great for a story but that Buffy would prefer stayed further away from her actual life. There was a room key and a map inside, and Buffy stared at them for a second, before looking around the room she was in again. "This isn't funny," she said, combing through her pockets for one of the microphones she was sure she ought to have.
